Project Overview
As the project manager for the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA) website overhaul, I led a comprehensive transformation to modernize their online presence. Our mission was to create a streamlined, accessible, and user-friendly website that serves Delaware residents effectively. Faced with a legacy platform that was outdated, slow, and non-compliant with accessibility standards, we saw an opportunity to make a real difference for the agency and its users.
Simplified Content and Intuitive Structure
The first priority was to tackle DSHA’s overwhelming content sprawl. I conducted a detailed content audit with stakeholders, identifying gaps, redundancies, and areas for improvement. Using these insights, we designed a visual sitemap to restructure the site’s information architecture. The goal? Put essential resources at users’ fingertips. By prioritizing the needs of landlords, tenants, and vendors, we made navigation seamless, reducing frustration and ensuring users could quickly find the information they needed.
Modern Design and User-Centric Development
Next, we focused on upgrading the site’s design and functionality. With user experience as the top priority, I guided the creation of a clean, responsive UI/UX design that works flawlessly across devices. To future-proof the platform, we developed a set of reusable and customizable components, giving DSHA the flexibility to update content while maintaining a polished, cohesive appearance.
Accessibility and Security First
Given the public-facing nature of DSHA’s website, accessibility and security were critical. We rigorously tested the platform to ensure full compliance with ADA standards, making it inclusive for all users, including those with disabilities. To protect sensitive information, we implemented secure hosting on a semi-dedicated server, meeting the agency’s strict security protocols.
Continuous Collaboration and Support
Collaboration was at the heart of this project. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions ensured we stayed aligned with DSHA’s goals throughout the process. Even after launch, we remain an active partner, providing ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and strategic guidance to keep the platform running smoothly.
The Results
The redesigned DSHA website, destatehousing.com, is a complete game-changer. With an intuitive design, organized content, and robust functionality, the platform now meets modern accessibility standards while delivering a superior user experience. Today, DSHA’s stakeholders and constituents have a dependable digital resource that empowers them to achieve their goals and supports the agency’s mission.
